Something exciting is happening in our region — and it speaks volumes about where Hampton Roads is headed.

Maxbyte, a global leader in industrial deeptech, has launched its Industry X.0 Center of Excellence right here in Virginia Beach. They’re not just building smarter factories — they’re building opportunities for our people to lead in the next wave of manufacturing, and bridging “the gap between untapped local talent and the unmet digital transformation needs of regional manufacturers.”

Through the LEAP Program, Maxbyte is inviting Hampton Roads residents — especially engineering students, recent grads, early-career professionals, veterans, and workforce reskilling candidates — to step directly into the future of smart manufacturing.

At its core, Industry X.0 (sometimes called 4.0 and beyond) is about automating industrial machinery through software, sensors, and AI. It’s a collaboration between humans and intelligent robotics, both working together to make production more efficient, sustainable, and adaptable. The world is moving quickly in that direction, and Maxbyte’s work with autonomous mobile robots and connected industrial vehicles is already creating real-world impact in India, the GCC countries, and now, breaking into the U.S.

The LEAP Program is a meaningful way for our community to plug in. By working on real projects, alongside experienced mentors, and gaining skills that translate directly to the modern industrial economy participants won’t just learn; they’ll contribute. There’s even a stipend and certification included.

This is yet another signal that Hampton Roads is growing into a national leader in innovation, and that companies like Maxbyte see the talent, potential, and energy that lives in our region.

Applications are open through June 30, 2025.
