The IHR 200 is not a feel-good list. It’s a signal.
A signal of which companies are actually building, scaling, and pushing this region forward. Not someday. Right now.
Curated by Innovate Hampton Roads, the IHR 200 highlights independent, high-potential businesses with the ability to grow, compete, and become category leaders. These are companies across industries and stages, but they all share one thing, they are building something that matters.
“For years, one of the most common questions we’ve been asked is simple, who are the companies we should be paying attention to? There was no clear answer. The IHR 200 changes that. It’s a curated list of the most important privately owned companies in Hampton Roads, built so when people ask who could become the next Google, SpaceX, or Coca-Cola, we have a real answer,” said Tim Ryan, Executive Director of Innovate Hampton Roads.
Below is the first release of 20 companies, listed alphabetically.

This group represents a cross-section of industries, stages, and business models across Hampton Roads. From emerging startups to scaling companies with national reach, each one reflects a different piece of what’s being built in the region.
Hampton Roads is building more than most people realize.
That’s the point.
Not to categorize them. Not to over-explain them. But to put them in one place and make it clear that this level of activity is already happening here.
“The first 20 are exactly that, the first 20. This is a living, evolving list. As companies grow, emerge, and scale, the IHR 200 will continue to reflect what’s actually being built here,” Ryan said.
This isn’t about hype. It’s about clarity.
When people ask, “What’s being built here?” — this is the answer.
And this is just the beginning.
