Job Description:
The Associate Director will play a crucial role in our organization, supporting the Executive Director in driving the strategic vision, direction, and growth of the organization. This position is ideal for a leader (or aspiring leader) with experience in the technology sector, a deep understanding of entrepreneurship and startup culture, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to community engagement and educational advancement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Support: Assist the Executive Director in setting the overall strategic direction for Innovate Hampton Roads. Participate in the development of a forward-thinking roadmap to position Hampton Roads as a thriving technology, innovation, and educational hub.
- Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring that all initiatives and programs are running smoothly and effectively.
- Community Engagement & Communication: Support the Executive Director in promoting the organization’s mission, activities, and educational programs to the broader community, stakeholders, partners, and the media.
- Digital Media Management: Ability to edit audio and video for various initiatives, including the organization’s weekly podcast and manage multiple social media accounts across platforms and develop marketing campaigns to expand reach
- Website Maintenance: Make basic WordPress website updates to ensure the organization’s online presence remains up-to-date and relevant.
- Partnership Development & Management: Cultivate relationships with various stakeholders, including early-stage startups, tech companies, investors, academic institutions, government entities, and other regional and national innovation organizations.
- Fundraising & Financial Stewardship: Assist in driving fundraising efforts, including grant writing and management, and help manage financial resources to ensure the sustainability and growth of the organization.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, Education, or a related field
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a technology-focused organization, startup, or educational institution.
- Excellent understanding of the technology landscape, startups, innovation trends, and educational program development.
- Deep understanding of entrepreneurship and startup culture.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, operational management, and financial stewardship.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to produce a podcast and edit audio and video in post-production.
- Proficiency in WordPress and the capability to make basic website updates.
- Ability to travel regionally for meetings and events as needed.
- A forward thinker who is willing to take initiative.
- Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Adaptable to changing priorities throughout the week.
- Familiarity with Notion and Google Drive suite.
