WFDT: A Bold New Initiative

In Hampton Roads, Virginia, the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit is thriving, and Downtown Norfolk is leading the charge with a bold new initiative. On April 30, 2025, the Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) launched Work From Downtown (WFDT), an event series designed to transform the workday into a vibrant, engaging experience. This initiative underscores Norfolk’s growing reputation as a hub for creativity and connection, making Downtown the ultimate destination for professionals and entrepreneurs in the region.

Events and Activities

WFDT is shaking up the traditional office routine by offering a dynamic mix of social, networking, and professional development events. Whether you’re a Downtown office worker, a remote employee in Norfolk, or an intern exploring career opportunities, there’s something for everyone. From laid-back social meetups to high-energy networking sessions, WFDT aims to foster connections and showcase the electric energy of Downtown Norfolk. “WFDT is about celebrating and enhancing the Downtown Norfolk experience,” said a DNC spokesperson. “We want to create moments for connection, learning, and fun right here in the heart of the city.”

Upcoming Events

The series kicks off on May 12 with FYI: For Your Indulgence, a free ice cream social at MacArthur Square from 12-2 p.m., where attendees can learn about upcoming events. Highlights include CFO: Cajun Friday Outing on May 16 at Bayou Bon Vivant, a lively social meetup, and Remote Control on June 12, a public coworking pop-up. Interns and first-year associates will enjoy exclusive events like KPI: Keys to Professional Improvement on June 17, a professional development session with KPMG, and N/A: Night Activity on June 13, a social outing for young professionals.

Community Engagement

By activating public spaces like Town Point Park and the NEON District, WFDT transforms familiar spots into lively gathering places. Events like CRM: Calm Relaxing Meditation on August 20, offering free yoga, and SOP: Sneakers on Pavement on June 18, a post-5K party, highlight the series’ creative approach. The DNC, in partnership with the Norfolk Innovation Corridor, is leveraging these events to attract talent and businesses to the region’s technology zone, stretching from Norfolk State to Old Dominion University.
