If you’ve been following the edtech scene here in Hampton Roads Virginia, you know Rubin Education isn’t just another startup—it’s a homegrown powerhouse rewriting how we prepare the next generation for the workforce. Founded right here in our backyard by Danny Rubin, this company has been on a rocket trajectory, and their latest move is a game-changer: a partnership with Rainbow Resource Center, the nation’s largest provider of educational materials for homeschool families. Announced on August 6, 2025, this collaboration puts Rubin’s flagship products—Emerge for employability skills and Aspire for career exploration—directly into the hands of millions of homeschoolers across America.
Let’s rewind a bit to appreciate the full story. Back in April 2025, we at Innovate Hampton Roads spotlighted Rubin in our “Disrupting the Tide” video series, showcasing how this local gem is fostering entrepreneurship and bridging education-to-workforce gaps. That feature highlighted Rubin’s dynamic tools, like video libraries of real professionals sharing career insights and interactive webinars on resume writing and interview prep. It was all part of our Regional Entrepreneurship Engine initiative, celebrating companies like Rubin that embody the innovative spirit of Hampton Roads.
Fast forward, and Rubin’s momentum hasn’t slowed. In January 2025, they expanded Emerge to over 15 charter schools in Miami-Dade County, the nation’s third-largest school district, empowering educators to teach critical skills like email etiquette and project management. Students there aren’t just learning—they’re thriving, with teachers like Shnae Wallace at Miami Jackson Senior High integrating Rubin’s activities to build confident communicators. Then, in June, Rubin went all-in with Philadelphia’s high schools, rolling out their curriculum district-wide for the 2025-2026 year. This move drew parallels to our own region’s potential, urging Hampton Roads edtech pioneers to scale up and disrupt traditional education models.
Now, this homeschool partnership takes things to a new level. Rainbow Resource Center, a go-to hub for homeschool materials, will feature Rubin’s Emerge and Aspire on its homepage from August 12-18, 2025, complete with detailed product pages, screenshots, demo videos, and reviews from their educator consultants. Families can snag these resources directly at rainbowresource.com, filling a massive gap in career development for the estimated three million homeschool students nationwide. As Danny Rubin put it, “We set a goal in 2025 to expand to new audiences outside of the traditional public school setting. Until now, homeschool families did not have a comprehensive resource for career development, and we are excited to share our instruction with families across the country.”
Why does this matter to you, our Hampton Roads community? Rubin Education’s journey—from local startup to national player partnering with giants like Rainbow Resource—proves what’s possible when innovation meets persistence. It’s a blueprint for our entrepreneurs: start with solving real problems (like soft skills shortages), leverage regional support (shoutout to events like the Homeschool Educators Association of Virginia convention where this deal sparked), and scale boldly. Imagine the ripple effects—more jobs in edtech right here in Virginia, inspired founders launching their own ventures, and a workforce pipeline that’s stronger because of tools born in our ecosystem.
This isn’t just Rubin’s win; it’s ours. As we continue to tell the stories of Hampton Roads’ trailblazers, partnerships like this remind us that our region is a launchpad for world-changing ideas. If you’re an educator, parent, or aspiring innovator, check out Rubin’s offerings and see how they can supercharge your own projects.
