Innovate Hampton Roads is thrilled to spotlight the 14th Annual Norfolk Bike Month, a vibrant celebration of cycling that’s transforming Downtown Norfolk into a hub of innovation, health, and community spirit. Hosted by the Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) in partnership with the City of Norfolk, Lime, and the Elizabeth River Trail Foundation, this month-long extravaganza in May 2025 is a testament to the region’s entrepreneurial drive and commitment to sustainable progress. For Hampton Roads’ innovators, entrepreneurs, and community builders, Bike Month offers a unique opportunity to connect, explore, and fuel the region’s forward momentum.
Kicking off with the Hampton Roads Bike Expo on May 1 at The Slover Library, cyclists of all levels can dive into resources, vendor booths, and biking swag. National Ride a Bike Day on May 4 features the scenic Tour de ORF and the laid-back Slow and Steady Sunday Ride, showcasing Norfolk’s 35.8 miles of bike lanes and 11.1 miles of shared paths. Bike to Work Week (May 12-16) culminates in Bike to Work Day on May 16, with 12 pitstops across Norfolk and Portsmouth offering snacks, water, and freebies from 7-9 a.m. Community rides hosted by local gems like East Coast Bicycles and Norfolk ReCycle Factory range from adventure treks to the glowing Glow Ride IX, while unique events like Bike Night at the Virginia Zoo and Kidical Mass Group Ride add family-friendly flair.
For Hampton Roads’ entrepreneurial ecosystem, Bike Month is more than pedal power—it’s a catalyst for innovation. The DNC’s mobile bike kiosks and advocacy for bike-friendly infrastructure reflect the region’s knack for creative problem-solving. “Bike Month showcases Downtown Norfolk as a premier destination for cyclists,” says Rachel McCall, DNC Vice President. “It’s a chance to experience the joy of cycling while building a healthier, more connected community.”
Join the movement, explore the full calendar at DowntownNorfolk.org, and tag #nfkbikemonth to share your ride. For Innovate Hampton Roads, this is a chance to pedal toward a brighter, more sustainable future—together.
