Fourteen years in, Start Peninsula continues to do what it has always done best, create a stage for early ideas to take a real step forward.

Micro Pitch 2 was another example of that in motion.

Founders from across Hampton Roads stepped up with different ideas, different industries, and different levels of traction, but the same challenge in front of them, clearly articulate what they are building and why it matters.

At the center of it were three companies that earned top honors.

DomiSource, led by Karen Watts, is focused on one of the most chaotic and overlooked moments in the consumer experience, moving. Instead of letting that moment stay fragmented, the company captures verified home data at the point where it is most accurate, turning it into a portable, trusted record. The vision is straightforward and powerful, a system that functions like a Carfax for your home while building a defensible data asset for insurers, lenders, and service providers.

HerculE-Q, led by Hannah LaCon, is tackling a much deeper infrastructure challenge. The company is developing advanced wireless charging technology designed to deliver high-efficiency, scalable power without reliance on traditional wired systems. With backing from NASA commercialization initiatives and academic partnerships, HerculE-Q is moving toward a fully functioning MVP that can validate real-world performance across industries.

SAF-T-SHUCK, led by Vernon McDaniel, proves that innovation does not need to be complex to be meaningful. The company has developed a patent-pending oyster knife featuring a secondary blade and integrated finger guard, giving users more leverage and control while significantly reducing the risk of injury. It is a practical solution to a long-standing problem, built for real-world use.

Each of these three companies received $500 and will advance to the championship pitch on November 11, 2026, where they will compete for $5,000.

But Micro Pitch 2 was not just about the winners.

It was about the broader group of founders building across the region.

Companies like TWR Café – The Writing Room, creating guided journals, workshops, and a community centered around creativity, reflection, and personal growth. Moonlit Moose, designing inclusive board games that bring people together while supporting learning disability nonprofits. Smart Moves, helping children learn through movement-based experiences that improve focus, confidence, and retention.

Others are tackling more complex systemic challenges. CARE AiLLY is building an AI-powered healthcare companion designed to support minority women through medical visits with voice-driven guidance, transcription, and provider matching. Monument Forge Manufacturing is creating a modern fabrication studio that combines CNC machining, engraving, and 3D printing to deliver custom plaques, industrial components, and prototypes with speed and flexibility. StewTech (Ghost Badger) is developing compact tactical electric vehicles designed for defense, law enforcement, and field operations where traditional vehicles fall short.

Different industries. Different approaches. Same underlying reality.

People are building.

The judging panel, Paula Short, Kali Luthra, and Michele King, had the task of evaluating that range and identifying the companies ready to take the next step.

“It was amazing to be a part of these startups journeys and companies that are being built here,” said Luthra.

That is what Start Peninsula has been doing for 14 years.

Creating moments where founders are pushed to refine their ideas, clarify their direction, and move forward with purpose.

Not finished companies.

Not polished narratives.

Real businesses, being built in real time.

And Micro Pitch 2 made one thing clear.

That momentum is not theoretical.

It is already happening.

We broke down how DomiSource is turning every move into a powerful data moment. Read that story here.

HerculE-Q is working on how energy moves next. Read their full story here.
